Pierrot Project |

The Pierrot Project was a very exciting collaboration with composer Ewan Campbell and art curator Niamh White: a series of events across London that brought together the fields of visual arts and classical music. We commissioned a number of composers and artists to create new music and artwork, all inspired by Schönberg’s wonderful chamber work ‘Pierrot Lunaire’. Performances occurred in a mixture of concert venues and art galleries, with soprano Lesley-Jane Rogers and the Dr K. Sextet performing the music.
We ran a composition competition to create innovative arrangements of Schönberg’s ‘Brettl-Lieder’ cabaret song cycle and held exciting joint concerts/art shows, in which new artworks perfectly complimented the music on offer. A particularly memorable early moment was a performance in a partly finished art studio on a trading estate with a nearby zombie apocalypse ‘experience’ providing some ear-splitting screams to accompany the music!
The most recent event truly combined the two cultural worlds, as three composers and three artists created combined music/art installations at Display Studio in London – recreating Schönberg’s composition studio, moonlight masks for the performers and a large Perspex box filled with water and resting on some huge speakers....
