F.S.Kelly -
the solo piano music

My first solo CD was released on June 5th 2020 - the first complete recording of the '24 Monographs' and '12 Studies' by F.S.Kelly, a composer who tragically lost his life during World War One.
This disc is the first recording of these works in their entirety and as such has been a great opportunity to introduce some fascinating music to the world for the first time.  It will also enable me to promote this music to audiences further afield who are unable to attend one of my live concerts.  The disc is available on the Toccata Classics label.

WHY KELLY?

In F.S.Kelly’s short life he was a world class pianist and composer who performed with the greatest musicians of the day, including Pablo Casals and Jelly D'Aranyi. He rowed for Britain at the 1908 Olympics and won a Distinguished Service Cross as a lieutenant-commander in WW1. He died on November 13th 1916 at Beaucourt-sur-Ancre. Australian by birth, he is one of their most talented cultural exports and deserves to be better known in the UK.

Kelly’s music is unjustly neglected: with a character and lyricism that is undeniably British, combined with a late-romantic virtuosity and drama.  This CD of previously unrecorded music will be a fitting conclusion to my Banks of Green Willow solo tour - a project that introduced me to Kelly’s music and has seen me explore a wealth of fascinating repertoire and perform in a number of venues around the country.

I will play Kelly's solo piano music interspersed between the movements of Sadie Harrison's 'To Dear Cleg' - a love letter to Kelly, intimate pieces based on extracts from Kelly's diaries.
Upcoming concerts in Gloucester and Exeter later in the year - check back here for dates once they are confirmed.

snow day concert recordings

I had to cancel my kickstarter launch concert at Southwark Cathedral on Feb 1st 2019 - I couldn't make it to London due to snow in Devon so I have recorded the music I should have been playing at home in this series of videos:

Are you sitting comfortably? I am going to tell you a story. Music. Sport. Love. War. The story of Frederick Septimus Kelly. pic.twitter.com/NGTBlQ99IW
